The Recaro ProBooster High Back, a similar model to the Recaro Vivo high back booster car seat, offers the standard Recaro system of SIP, Side Impact Protection, that has become an industry standard for child safety and security.
The SIP features enhanced head wings that shield head and face, and a neck restraints that allows some movement but restricts complete head freedom in case of an accident. EPS foam for absorption surrounds the child like a cocoon, and the adjustable head restraints, belts and reclining system combine well in a product that meets all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for Child Restraint Systems.

Recaro ProBooster High Back – Negative Reviews
Unlike the Recaro Vivo high back booster, whose negative complaints were fairly small and easily dealt with, the negatives for the Recaro ProBooster High Back are somewhat more substantial in their issues. The major difficulty was the design of the seat, which was found wanting (indeed dangerously inadequate) for cars that do not have bucket seats (a major complaint, as that means many customers would not want to use the product).
The base of the Recaro booster seat is narrower than the seating surface of the booster, thus causing the seat to tilt severely, even with the child’s weight added, whenever the car is making a turn, and this occurs, said some customers, at any speed. No LATCH strapping for the seat’s better security further exacerbates the problem.
This is the universal complaint in all the negatives. The tipping and near –injury of some children in non-bucket seat cars occasioned many of the one- and two-star reviews.
Recaro ProBooster High Back – Positive Reviews
Out of 26 reviews, 17 were positive, and all appeared to be from customers whose cars have bucket seats or are specifically sports models. With these, the users had no complaints, and many such reviews were highly positive. One bucket seat user remarked that the car is very safe, easily fits the car (in his review, a BMW), and was called “completely idiot proof” with its seat belt system, which also “fits perfectly” with his seat belt.
Most children in the positive reviews found the seat very comfortable and often settled in for long rides (the only complaint being the hand-washing of the cover).
Other reviewers praised its solidity, adjustability and overall construction. The Recaro ProBooster High Back was determined to be plush and comfortable and the side protection an excellent and foresighted addition to the design. (One five- star reviewer did caution that cloth car seats needed a towel over them before installation of the booster).
Recaro ProBooster High Back – Conclusion
With its 3.5 star rating, we can definitely recommend this product, but it must be a qualified recommendation. This is because of the great difficulty (one reviewer labeled it “toxic”) in using this seat in a non-bucket seat automobile, due to its disastrous propensity for tipping at the slightest deviation or turn.
If one has bucket seats, deep and cushiony (and preferably leather), the Recaro ProBooster High Back model is an ideal choice; if one does not have bucket seats, it would be remiss of us to recommend this booster for your child, based on the problems presented by its particular design.
